Rotary InternationalFUNDRASING:

RADIO & T.V. AUCTION & TRIP OF THE MONTH

The two main fundraising activities of the Rotary Club of Amherst are the annual Radio & T.V. Auction ($18,000-$20,000) and the Trip of the Month Campaign (approx $40,000). During the month of February, Rotarians solicit goods and gift certificates, which are then sold off in a two evening auction that is carried live by the local radio and Cable T.V stations. From June to the end of September, Club members sell 550 tickets ($150 each) by which fourteen trips for two with spending money (value between $2,000 and $3,000) can be won, as well as cash prizes.

Rotary InternationalCAREER DEVELOPMENT:

Career Development Committee Activities

  • Students from the Amherst High School and the NSCC – Cumberland Campus are guests at the Rotary meetings several times a month during the school year. The Wandlyn, donates up to one meal per week and the Rotary club picks up the remainder.
  • Rotary members were polled and a number from the different classifications were willing to take a student to work for a day. This resource list was passed on to the Amherst High and the NSCC
  • All Community College Certificate and Diploma graduates are required to complete a work term, usually in May. Several Rotary members indicated that they are interested in having a student. This information was passed on to NSCC faculty members where appropriate matches may be made.Back to Top

Rotary InternationalBLOOD DONOR CLINICS:

Blood Donor Clinics were supported by the Rotary Club of Amherst for many years under the leadership of Rotarian Dr. Tony Lawrence. Recently a decision was made by Canadian Blood Services not to solicit assistance from outside organizations. Our club supports their efforts and encourages the public to continue to donate much needed blood supplies in our area.

Rotary InternationalSENIORS & LIFELINE:

The Rotary Club of Amherst is the sponsor for the Program in the larger Amherst area, which includes the areas from Port Howe to River Hebert.

LIFELINE is a personal emergency response system connected to a 24 Hour call centre. It is designed to help persons living alone to live independently with a measure of security and safety.

Members of the Rotary Club undertake to install and maintain the Lifeline units in the area - which are currently about forty in number.

Other activities of the Committee involve meeting some of the recreational needs of seniors by providing an annual "Rotary Fiesta" night, an evening of fun and games put on by members of the Rotary Club.
